Empowering Growth and Sustainability: Residues2Revenue Insights from Steven Bell

At the Residues2Revenues conference, the WIDE Trust had the honour of sponsoring Steven Bell, a recent graduate and budding professional, whose journey embodies the spirit of knowledge-sharing and collective advancement that lies at the heart of our mission.

Steven's experience at the conference truly captured the essence of learning, networking, and growth that the WIDE Trust stands for. As he stepped into the conference venue, he was met with a warm welcome, setting the tone for an enriching experience that would shape his understanding of the forestry and wood industries.

Throughout the event, Steven engaged with a diverse range of professionals and speakers, each offering unique insights into the forestry sector's innovations and challenges. One standout presentation was by Christian Jirkowsky from Polytechnik Biomass Energy, who provided an in-depth look into high-tech biomass boilers and their global applications. Steven was particularly intrigued by the concept of torrefied pellets as an alternative fuel source, as well as the practical aspects of residue management shared by Brad Coleman from Canterbury Woodchip Supplies.

However, it was Linda Mulvihill's presentation on transitioning to biofuels that left a lasting impression on Steven. He was struck by the potential demand for substantial amounts of woody biomass to support sustainable energy solutions, especially in the context of larger companies like Fonterra considering such shifts.

WIDE Trust's sponsorship of Steven at Residues2Revenues showcases our commitment to nurturing emerging talent and fostering collaboration within the forestry and wood industries. By providing opportunities for young professionals like Steven to explore, learn, and connect, we're contributing to a more sustainable and innovative future. This sponsorship is not just about attending a conference; it's about igniting a passion for growth and making a positive impact.

As we continue on our mission, we eagerly anticipate more opportunities to support individuals like Steven, empowering them to play an active role in shaping a prosperous and sustainable future for New Zealand's forestry and wood sectors. Through collaboration and shared learning, we can pave the way for a greener and more resilient industry that benefits us all.
